Dermal Fillers
Restore facial volume and soften creases to improve your overall appearance by supporting and lifting areas of concern. Dermal fillers can be used in different areas of the face to reduce the appearance of nasal labial folds, marionette lines, increase lip volume, increase cheekbone projection, provide jawline definition, address under-eye hollows, and more.
Changes to our skin are perfectly normal as we age, and this includes wrinkles and loss of facial volume. This occurs when we lose some of our skin’s subcutaneous fat. Superficial and deep fat pads in the face thin and shift over time, giving the appearance of a drooping or sagging face. To help minimize these signs of aging, you can receive dermal fillers to soften wrinkles, add support and help lift the skin.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are not the same as Botox®/Dysport®. Botox® and Dysport® quiet muscle movement, whereas dermal fillers are FDA-approved injectable products that smooth skin and wrinkles by increasing facial volume. Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and are injected beneath the skin for the treatment of:
Plumping thin lips
Softening facial creases
Removing wrinkles
Enhancing shallow contours
Minimizing the appearance of scars
Dermal Filler Side Effects
Even though dermal fillers are a non-surgical treatment, they still involve some risks. The most common side effects of dermal fillers include redness, bruising, and swelling.
How Long do Dermal Fillers Last?
Most dermal fillers are not permanent solutions to aging skin, and re-treatment/touch-ups occasionally can be expected to maintain your new look. Dermal fillers should appear natural when professionally injected. The changes Dermal Fillers make are subtle - and should not be very obvious. However, most patients do notice a difference immediately. Sometimes achieving full correction may take more than one appointment so that results are not rushed. Dermal fillers can also be adjusted or dissolved should you decide that this treatment is not for you.
Dermal Fillers Important Reminders:
Before receiving any dermal filler treatment, please…
No dental work or vaccinations two weeks before your appointment.
If you are taking or have recently taken an anti-biotic, your course must be completely finished two weeks before your appointment.
To minimize the possibility of bruising, 10-14 days before treatment, stop using the following medications or supplements (which thin the blood): aspirin, ibuprofen (i.e., Advil®, Aleve®), Omega 3’s, flax seed oil, ginko, ginseng, garlic, vitamin E, turmeric, curcumin.
You may take Tylenol® if you experience any discomfort.
Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours after your appointment
After receiving any dermal filler treatment:
No travel for 24 hours after your appointment
No airline travel for 24 hours
No facials or massages for two weeks
A 2-week follow-up is requested for all patients, or if you are an established patient and are treating a new area.
Dermal fillers do take time to settle - this can be up to 4 weeks+. It is normal to experience some swelling and possible bruising. The treated area can also feel sore. Rest assured that this will settle.
You will be given a detailed post-treatment instruction sheet at the time of your appointment.
