What is Kybella®?

Weight fluctuations, genetics, and aging can give the appearance of a “double chin”, a condition called submental fullness. Kybella® is the only FDA-approved injectable that destroys fat cells in this area. This non-surgical treatment involves a series of injections that work over time to safely and effectively remove submental fullness permanently. Kybella® is made of deoxycholic acid, a chemical found naturally in our bodies that breaks down fat.

How Does Kybella® Work?

When Kybella® is injected, it starts to work immediately but subtly. This procedure is known as injection lipolysis. Many of our patients experience results after only two sessions. The number of injections that you receive at each appointment will be tailored to your individual needs. During treatment, numbing cream and/or ice is applied to the area to minimize discomfort.

Our patients choose Kybella® because it is an excellent non-surgical solution for permanent fat removal under the chin and has a relatively short recovery time vs. surgical procedures, with fewer risks. Treatments usually last 30 minutes so that you can be in and out in no time. Immediately following Kybella® injections, you may experience swelling, bruising, inflammation, pain, redness, and temporary numbness around the injection site. This should subside within a few days to weeks, and you can continue your regular activities after the procedure. All potential risks and side effects will be thoroughly reviewed with you at your appointment.

Kybella® Important Reminders:

• Kybella® is a permanent reduction in fat cells.

• There is downtime with Kybella®. There will be significant swelling at the treatment site. This is normal and will subside over time, typically 2 weeks.

• A typical course of treatment consists of 2-3 treatments, approximately 6 weeks apart.
